Minute dots at the center of eyes that remained unblinking stared skyward. The last of the great mushrooms that grew like a parasite upon these big trees was there above, idly perched upon the trunk of the mighty flora. They were a pleasant sight at first, but the repetition of their design and position were painful to the eyes.

Hoshigaki Kisame turned his brutish visage to the sight before them, a mere hundred meters away, a quick run and a hop if they decided that it would be needed to reach it. He was pained, having to avoid a bit of Hunter-nins. Yet the fates had led them to a more interesting place, somewhere in the midst of Earth Country. The memories of these sort of things brought a vile grin to his sharp teeth; he loved any chance to expose them in association with his shark-like appearance. The gill-like markings on his cheeks rose as he did so, as though to breath in the fresh air of the oxygenated place. His gaze was fixated upon the sight before them.

"Ne, Itachi-san... I know there was a legion of ninja back there on the boarders of Taki no Kuni and Hi no Kuni, but... even you could have taken them by yourself and I after a bit longer. Did we really have to leave? This route's taking longer to traverse than the other could have been..." the blue-skinned man complained politely, hands idly swaying with the motions of his torso as each step carried he and his partner closer to the historical site in front of them. The smiling face was soon lost as his complaints grew; what would the leader-guy think if they were running late? "Even though this is Deidara-san's home country... I can't say I like it. The memories here are thick and I can almost bite the spirits that remain here from..." Kisame's smile returned. "The Third Great Shinobi War." Though Kisame often held a visage of vague stupidity like a number of the other... odd looking shinobi of this world, his knack for knowing pointless things that didn't matter here in the present was rather well developed. "Up there is Kanabi Bridge... You know what happened there, right? What your country's shinobi did? I was just a lad then, hehn..! I wanted to get in on it..."

Itachi went with Kisame's steps, walking side-by-side as though attached to the hip. Yet, it wasn't quite that way -- their relationship, companionship, and mainly forced partnership kept the two by each others side. They were oddly compatible for each other, knowing when the line started to thin; allowing the two to break off at the cross road to finish a lonesome battle and meet half-way. While his partner spoke, his eyes continued to stare onward, imagining Kisame's smile just by the vocalization.

Did we really have to leave?

He was sure his partner new the answer to that question by now. Avoiding any unnecessary battle was one of Itachi's aspects, even if Kisame wanted to stay and fight. In short, their differences balanced each other out -- devoid of any inane activities.

What your country's shinobi did?

A slight hitch came from Itachi's movements, his village? The village he didn't feel nostalgic over? A village he deliberately estranged from his life and saw how dissipated it had gotten? Kisame really should have chosen his words a bit carefully. The shorter Akatsuki's eyes narrowed in thin slits before slanting his head in Kisame's direction, the large folds of his cloak covering the nonchalant expression.

He recalled the history; one being a Uchiha. But for that reason he could not think less of Deidara. After all, it had worked out in Konoha's favor. Of course he applauded Kisame for his knowledge silently, even out of the fact that it held no relevance.

Kisame enjoyed conversing and Itachi played along (enjoying it by denial). "Enlighten me. Whose side would you have fought for?" The options: Leaf or Stone.

The shark-like visage of the Kirigakure Nukenin remained in the ever-happy state, his grin showing as thoughts of war and the chaos this land had once endured. "I can't say. Judging by the outcome, however, I myself would have sided with Konohagakure if I had the choice. Though, even the defeated seems like it'd be grand fun, having to kill all those Leaf-nins. My memory fails me at times; was I a member of the Seven Shinobi Swordsmen of the Mist, yet?" he pensively spoke, pondering the point in time. "Ah, can't remember. I think I was nineteen or so; a lad, right? Hehn!" he mused, his steps remaining in a systematic movement of repetition as the rubble of the Kanabi Bridge grew larger in his visionary field.

"In any case, there were two specific shinobi that caused the end of the war between the Fire and Earth countries. Their group destroying the Kanabi Bridge ruined the supply routes set by the Earth Country; crippling their troops and the like. Kirigakure didn't have much influence in this region, since we had our own battles to deal with on our side of the world. We got our own share of shinobi to slaughter and be slaughtered by..." his pointed teeth could almost shine in the rays of light that passed through the canopy. "Those two shinobi... Well, you've fought one of them before; I never got the chance to tear bits of his flesh off like you tore asunder his head. You remember him, right?"

Itachi's stare focused on the side of Kisame's head, catching the smidge of blue before turning his attention back on the land ahead. The answer didn't get any response out of Itachi nor did his expression give away praise or offense. Every word dipped down into Itachi's memory, recalling fragments of his past. The Kanabi Bridge and the fight between the one-eyed Sharingan user.

Kakashi Hatake; Copy Ninja Kakashi.

"I remember," Itachi replied, letting his partner know that his words were well received. At the end of that fight he recalled Kisame being disappointed that his excitement had to end so soon, but it wasn't there place to fight on pointless terms. Besides, there was always a chance they would run into the same group of people again. Seeing as their paths quickly weaved together a tangled web.

His silence wasn't anything unusual but often times he was inclined to converse in short sentences with Kisame, getting his point across at the same time. Yet today turned out different, the silence became prolonged. Obviously Itachi had something on his mind.

The man with the shark-like appearance hummed a note of ennui after his affiliate's statement, a pensive visage taking hold of his gilled faced. He contemplated further on his words, making use of the silence between himself and Itachi-san. His mind floated around the name of the shinobi, before he began speaking aloud his thoughts. "Yeah? I sometimes forget, he has a lot of titles in reference to him: Hatake Kakashi, Sharingan no Kakashi, the Copy Ninja, Son of Konohagakure's White Fang. He's got quite a fan-base all over the world; though most of his fans aren't the type that you'd actually consider to be. He's in almost every bingo book; I've read his file before. While he isn't a Nuke-nin like ourselves, he got his place there in Iwagakure's just because of the simple mission to destroy this bridge. Though, it wasn't always just him alone, there were others with him, three to be exact. One of them didn't make it," he mused over the thought of the failure of the ninja. "He was part of your clan; from what I've heard, that's how Hatake Kakashi came by those eyes," Kisame's lips pulled apart again to reveal his typical sharp-toothed smile.

"Though, it wasn't just Hatake Kakashi that played a part in the fall of this bridge. Kanabi was destroyed by someone with a greater name... He was a legend in Konohagakure and remains with such high standard even in other countries. He's revelled as one of the greatest shinobi to ever been born; not only in Konoha, but from anywhere. Hehn, I wish I could of have a fight with that guy..." his pupils contracted at the thought of bloodshed, the metallic scent of blood filling his nose even when there was none. Kisame was easily excitably, and often threw himself into battle for the sake of fighting, which was his main reason for ever becoming a shinobi. Violence was in the nature of every creature, predator and prey, light and darkness... Only he bathed in it's glorious content like a shark on a carcass. "Whether I had the chance against him or not, I wouldn't have cared. Just to fight such an esteemed shinobi would have been good enough for me. A fitting death, hehn!" he chuckled loudly, the dry sound filling his throat with gutteral bounces of vocal tones.

"You know who I am talking about... He came from your village. He's the one who protected it, saved it, and died for it... Against a monster, the Kyuubi no Youko, he sealed away the most powerful force that can be imagined into the body of an infant, thereby making it a jinchuuriki for us to get. I don't mind, the chase is a fun part of the hunt. Stalking in the silence ocean, the gul afloat heeds not to the jaws beneath it. That shinobi died... The great shinobi responsible for a major part of why the War ended, his technique impossible to track or follow... He's worshipped as a saint in Konoha..." his chuckling continued as he reached the edge of the ruined bridge, feeling the wind upon his cloak as the water beneath the broken structure rushed betwixt the ruin.

Kisame soon looked back over his shoulder and high collar, a single, small eye focusing upon his associate. "Yondaime Hokage...!"

Empathetic, to clearly understand someone else's pain/emotion. Enough of that empathy drove Uchiha Obito into a compassionate act of courage; sacrifices befitting enough to save his team mates and complete a mission. And out of an unspoken companionship, friendship, this is how Kakashi Hatake came to be with that eye. Not to mention Kisame's words stirred ideas in Itachi's head, useless and unimportant events that only layered upon each other to create history.

To waste potential for someone else's expenses didn't appeal to Itachi. He had master minded his emotions and burrowed them away in depletion. True sacrifice meant to severe morality. Yet, Kisame's character had elasticity to learn and acknowledge power; he also had a hot-headedness that stirred excitement. Itachi could feel the surge of energy in Kisame's voice. Another difference: Kisame's approach was quite destructive, even powerful, where Itachi remained frugal with how much effort he put into the fight. However, logic remained reason enough to withdraw.

Yondaime Hokage...!

Even in the name, his partner held powerful enthusiasm -- enough to draw Itachi out of his intrinsic thoughts. He looked up, back at his partner, Sharingan ablaze. Esteemed, legendary - whatever the components were, both Kisame and Itachi had their own reputations. Selfless acts were praised as heroes; selfish ones were frowned upon, labeled as S-rank nins. Truly, everything remained black and white.

At least Kisame mentioned the jinchuuriki, a present aspect to focus on. To reprieve Kisame of his egocentric behavior was in the Akatasuki's favor. The stare didn't waver from Kisame. "A continuous fight would have given us no merit and we didn't want to draw anymore attention to ourselves, now would we?" a delayed response to Kisame's commentary, readdressing the matter at hand: the importance of their mission. He didn't need a history lesson from Kisame; he knew it all. Silently, a thought to himself, Itachi knew what prestige was and how it mutated to look like a death wish.

To live on the past made up an entirely different character -- a character that didn't belong to the Akatsuki and Itachi enforced that idea on Kisame the best that he knew how. You'll get your chance, Kisame.

The sphericaly, lidless eyes remained keen upon his partner, unafraid as the legendary optics of the Uchiha clan remained set upon his own. The Sharingan, the eyes with the ability to see the future by simple motion, the oculars that can see through the most technical genjutsu, ninjutsu, and taijutsu, weilded by the clan member whose blood ran thick with the trait... Kisame did not fear these eyes, for he knew that Itachi wouldn't use them against him. Their relationship was moot and blunt. Kisame did what he liked, fighting, while Itachi remained passive, as was his typical nature. That's how it was. He the brawn and Itachi the brains. He didn't mind; fighting and bloodshed was in his anture. His malicious grin remained to play upon his lips as his narrow eyes slowly turned from his companion's lock back to the ledge of the Kanabi Bridge.

"I suppose not... But, now that we're out in this sort of terrain where it's not populated... If those shinobi come for us, I'm gonna' shred them into tiny bits...!" his right hand raised, easing back over his shoulder to the bandaged mass that hung there like a coat on a rack. With a jerk he raised it, easily and without resistance, over his shoulder, driving the tip of the bandaged sword into the bridge, causing cracks to radiated upon the broken form outward towards the edge. "It'll be fun, hehn...! There hasn't been enough bloodshed as of late and just walking looking for roughly six more jinchuuriki -- unless I've missed a meeting or something -- is bothersome. I'd rather fight that Stupid Beast of Konoha again more than just walking around where the wind takes us." His teeth clamped together, pointed ends almost reaching to opposing gums. Adjusting the angle of his sword, he leaned Samehada downwards, forcing the weight of the bridge-chunk to be taken by gravity and plummet into the river below.

Water rose, a gentle spray lingering as the result of the fallen mass of concrete and stone. Nostrils flared, inhaling the mist-ridden air. "Ah... Reminds me of my home country. Lovely place, full of death and red, hehn!"

Silently, Itachi knew Kisame wasn't just a tank who could bring down an opposing force, he was also underestimated, miscalculated; a character built of potential and knowledge. No matter how blunt Itachi came off as, Kisame was the one to voice their obvious situation and their percentages. This is why respect formulated itself into their mutual understanding. Having Kisame look at him and not through him was proof of a bond that would never be spoken between the two. Out of all the Akatsuki, Kisame remained in Itachi's high favor, even under dangerous eyes.

Itachi didn't remove his eyes from his accomplice, however. The removal of the large weapon alerted the Uchiha. The heavy impact caused him to stop in his trail, averting his attention to the fissure spreading across the heavy edges of the bridge. His head followed the chunk of bridge falling into a river like an obedient child would do with a mother. Beast of Konoha. Gai. Ever since the Beast's attack on Kisame; the taller man begrudged him. An instinct they both needed, but in time -- they'd have to be patient with this one. The minuscule drops of water, mist, didn't catch his attention span far too long.

He had this slight innate feeling that Kisame wasn't nostalgic over the Hidden Mist; rather, it had to be the bloodshed. "This area would be to your geographical advantage," Itachi's voice remained calm and even enjoyable, "Not that you need it." This was an understated praise to Kisame's chakra abilities, unlikely noticeable.

The blood-hungry ogre's thoughts remained nostalgic over the memories that he held within his oh-so tiny brain, remembering the arts that they were taught in the Bloody Mist Village, remembering how he learned the patterns of making blood spill and how flesh looked when it was shredded, not cut. It was such a greater mess than a simple cut, for not only did it create blood spillage like a waterfall with each final beat of the heart, but the way the flesh looked, torn asunder by the teeth of his Samehada and other assorted tools of torture, like a citrus fruit after being juiced. The arts they were taught were no different, for the brutality of the simple task of getting out of the Academy there was on your life. Hehe... He remembered watching Momochi Zabuza's graduation. That boy had a lot of power within him for such a young lad, feeding the fire that was his resolve to kill almost every child in the academy for that year's graduation 'ceremony'. It was a bloody sight, with cadavers strewn across the pin they were put in.

Kisame's smile held askew, the jagged teeth characterizing his home village's shinobi pressing together with an instinctive gnawing movement, puncturing the gums beneath and above them. "Yar'e yar'e, I guess so. I hadn't thought about having a geographical advantage for a long time," Kisame mused, raising Samehada from it's position from the bridge's end, shouldering it over the right and strapping back to where it belonged, bound to his back, ready for action. "I've turned rocky, arid places into lakes, so... That never even occured to me." He blinked dumbly, his Baku Shuishouha no Jutsu the particular technique that he uses to drown the battlefield in a flooding wave colliding in their charge. The beady eyes surveyed the surrounding terrain, noting in detail the pits in the ground, where streams ran, and of course, the river that the broken Kanabi Bridge once passed over. "E-heehn.. Looks like you're right, Itachi-san. Your Sharingan always notices the details and put my own eyes to waste. My nature makes it so I don't have to notice it; I'll go into war no matter the terrain." Chaos and destruction was in his nature, even if it meant destroying an entire forest to get what he wanted. Boy he loved to fight..

At times Itachi admired Kisame for his stamina. They both reached to their limit near the same time but if Kisame dared to press his limits, he would go further and beyond. Each had a way of attacking: Itachi's remained calculated while Kisame's were fluid. Whatever the case may be, their attacks had the same purpose and that was to destroy and accomplish.

The air started to feel humid, even a little dry. Since they had walked for a long while, he found the movements to be repetitive and over-all boring. Unfortunately, sprinting to their languid destination would use up energy.

Itachi, for a second, tuned Kisame out. He had concentrated quietly on the arm that slipped into his cloak, only to reach forward at the long collar, folding it down and unfastening the upper most clasps. Once comfortable with the 'V' shape in the cloak, he retracted his arm into the respectable place of his sleeve. Usually he would leave his arms close to his figure, as though cold, but he found the weight of the cloak to be bothersome in general.

"..."

Again with the silence. He had made his observations; therefore, there was nothing left to say.

Ridged teeth clamped upon the inside of a cheek, his war-mongering mind not running scenarios of battles and strategies, but rather picturing the way the flesh was ripped when his Samehada's skin tore through skin and meat, allowing the innards to be exposed to the biting air. They screamed so much. Kisame's bloodlust was natural and fitting to his appearance; a shark, perhaps the most feared of creatures born and master of the seas throughout all of time. The rows of teeth, serrated and jagged, bent on ripping apart flesh for the need of survival. Kisame was like that, yes, with the thrill of the hunt and feared on his side, but he didn't just fight for survival. His purpose was much more... recreational. Fighting was just a hobby to him, and he loved every minute of it. He loved the smell of sweat and blood; the metallic and salty tang that reached his nostrils often caused his pupils to dialate like a shark's before their eyes roll back in the skull for the strike, when their jaws hyperextended to give a more crushing and lithe bite. Ah... The merriment of bloodshed.

The blue man remained on the edge of the Kanabi Bridge, a hand twitching as those thoughts continued. However, it was obvious to him that he did not like standing still too long, almost like a child when in a shop, except he wanted to fight rather than pick candies from the counter. "Ne, Itachi-san..." the thickly-jawed man asked, resting his gaze upon the Uchiha. "What do we do now? Head back to our original route still through Stone Country? We could always head back the way we came and you can let me deal with those filth we avoided... I'll even keep my attacks low, ee-heeehn!"
